A. Be a venue for local residents’ activities ~ in general not running activities ourselves as an Association, but providing the facilities in which other community groups can operate. Nonetheless, one of our aims for 2012 is for the centre to build activities which meet the needs of groups which are not currently catered for.
B. Facilitate local groups to meet community needs ~ helping with community capacity building so that groups can better meet local needs, especially where gaps or shortfalls in provision are identified.
C. Support volunteering ~ mobilising individual residents to engage with activities going on, both running the centre itself and supporting those activities taking place. “Have your say” recorded {134} expressions of interest in volunteering, notably “organising a community event”, “working in a community cafe” and “door-to-door distribution”. Smaller numbers of people also registered an interest in things like reception duties, joining the committee and helping with finances.
The manner in which the Centre pursues its Mission will change significantly from 2012, when it takes on the lease of the building from the City Council, and therefore have more autonomy and management responsibility. The close relationship with the City Council will continue through delivery of the Community Partnership with the City Council, representation of Councillors on the Management Committee, and through engagement with the various Council users of the building.

We are continuing to look into the History of the Centre. If you have any old photographs, memories or written accounts we'd like to compile them into a web-based log, and maintain an updated historical account of the centre's users. The Centre was probably build around the early 1940's due to the outbreak of the Second World War, to be used as an administration centre for workers. If you have some history to add, please e-mail Paul at the centre or call the Main centre number (02476 502 226)
